Ok, now is the time to play the game at a level, that will actually make things better.
The most natural thing to do now, would be to retaliate, and loose some of the political capital we have gained.
But how would that serve our interest? Our interest being getting the hostages home, getting safe, and countering Iran.
It would not really work in any of the fields, countering Iran a little, but it would just be a tit for tat.
IF we save our political capital, and use it on our hostage deal instead, we would actually have used the political capital in something much more useful. That is, refrain from doing any harm on Iran.
If we do that, Iran would be named bad guy, the pressure on Hamas would rise, and we are closer at getting a deal.
If Iran attacks again, our political capital would have even gone higher. That is what you do in Jiu jitsu, use the strength of your enemy on themselves.
We would be seen as the wise partner, who has showed restraint, and Iran would be seen as a bad guy.
