So what is the true problem of the European Union right now?

It’s the quality of leadership. I am not saying this to be an annoyance to the commission or the rest of the EU. However to fix the problems, one needs to understand what the problem is.

Let me try and explain. In Russia Mr. Putin is the BEST the Russian powers have to offer. He is extremely intelligent, and understands Russian culture. Also he is essentially a good man, and the Russians can feel that.

In China the system is different. Here leaders rise through the time tested Chinese system of exams. The Chinese essentially invented exams through their Confusian method system.

So everyone is testet and tested, making sure that the best float to the top. Mr. Xi is extremely intelligent and essentially also a good man.

The same with the American administration. You may not like Mr. Trump. But the system made it so, that he floated to the top.

In the European Union and in many of the European countries the leaders are systematically chosen with an eye to their allegiance and not skill.

So we end up with leaders without the necessary skillset. It’s a flaw in the European institution.

We need to fix that, to make it work.

This means, as it is a European construct, that we will have to make the leaders electable.

This will create the necessary competition.

It will make weird and strange politicians emerge to the top, but the people are, as according to Aristotle, wiser than the leaders. This is why a democracy works.

I know that it will mean loosing the grip on power, but it is necessary to make the real leaders float to the top.

We need some power houses and mavericks, if the European Union is going to work in the long run.
