What are we to make sense of all this warfare and punishment we get.
I mean, when the Mosiach comes it’s supposed to be a day of festive and joy.
It’s not, the path is littered with pain and excruciating acts of violence against Jews.
What is going on?
If we see this in the light of David and Saul, two famous Jewish Kings, who also saw warfare and strife, it seems to me, that it is all about us doing what is right for Israel.
Stop our bickering, and be noble.
This was why G-d chose David, and to some extent Saul. Because of their exceedingly noble characters.
Because that is what G-d is. Exceedingly noble.
Also very angry sometimes, as we have seen over and over again. I have felt it, as I have been punished and kicked around.
As we all have experienced.
Yet, what we can learn from this crowning is the fact that, G-d has a plan, and he does protect us, IF, and that is quite important, we do what he tells us to do.
He is extremely invested in Israel and he has a lot of principles he wants us to adhere to.
If we do not, he will punish us.
It’s hard and difficult. Living with such a stern master. Yet we also get to thrive under his stern gaze.
When we uphold the covenant, we will be safe.
For us Jews, and the current predicament, that is a very great gift.
Yet, my feeling is, that his kind of angry with us, and we should probably start accepting his will.
This is NOT to curry my own favor.
Being king will be just as much a blessing as a challenge. It will cost me things that I probably don’t want to pay. Yet I don’t really have a choice. As does any of us. We just have to do what we are told. G-d is a stern master.
