Solomon the innovator

Ok, so I have tried to dig a little deeper into the life and ideas of Solomon, in the discussion of the rebuilding of the third temple.

Solomon was wise, but he wasn’t exactly the ideal of a family man. He build several temples of all kinds of g-ds, due to his abundant use of women.

So supporting a single g-d, as what is the point of Judaism according to Moses, wasn’t exactly his fortè.

But he was extremely skilled, I think. The methods of divination and worshipping that was evolved in Babylon and still is an apocryphal tradition in the West and among Muslims is attributed to him.

I don’t think he really was the originator to the so called Salomonic worship, so we need to understand him more as a just king, with a lot of flaws, and a lot of temple building on his plate than a magician.

He was a womanizer and extremely intelligent. He probably inherited his good looks from his dad and also all of David’s charisma.

In other words, we need to see Solomon as what he was in all his ambiguity and understand, that HE was also an innovator, albeit to an extent we would today see as sacrilegious.

But the INNOVATIVE part of Solomon’s legacy is true. He was a real Jew, and had his own ideas on things. We should as well, though I really believe, that we need to respect Moses.

Moses was an innovator as well, but going too far away from the ideas of Moses, that are much more strict is dangerous. So the frame that Moses made is extremely important to respect. BUT we need to innovate as well, as Solomon.

G-d bless the will to make a third temple. May it be beautiful and inspiring.
