If I am the Mosiach, we have to figure out what the Mosiach IS.

I have been doing some digging in the scriptures, to try and figure out this role of a light bringer, redeemer and protector.

First of all, it’s an ancient idea. We can trace it in the Torah, the book of Enoch, the war scroll found in Qumran. Subsequently the idea has moved quite a bit.

But at the core of the idea is the principle of a royal man defending the Jews.

In the Qumran war scroll, the Mosiach is a warrior prince of light fighting the sons of darkness, it’s extremely beautiful and has direct impact on Christianity that was, most people think, a child of the essenic communities at the time of the birth of Jesus Christ.

One of the conundrums I have had with the role, is the ambiguity between what I am (I am a warrior fighting for peace) and that of the image of Jesus Christ.

But after having delved into the war scroll and reading the book of Enoch, that is the precursor to the war scroll, I have realized, that Jesus Christ was as much a warrior as me. He was first and foremost a SPIRITUAL warrior, he fought the Satan and demons as a prince of light.

This is the entirety of Christian tradition, to fight the demons with the help of the angels.

If you read a bit more into those ancient texts, you realize that apart from making peace he ALSO fought for MORALITY. He fought against sin, for a world of truth and justice.

So this moral dimension is very important.

Later the Rambam (a very influential Jewish rabbi and scholar) argued, that the Mossiach is a POLITICAL figure.

A human person that makes a political career and protects the people of Israel.

So it’s less of a spiritual figure and more of a political figure.

This probably comes from need. We needed a place to be and be protected. In this light Herzl actually must be the Mosiach in a way.

However the concept of the Mosiach is really the focus of bringing the Jewish people to safety and protection. That is what it is all about.

This IS possible in this era, the Muslims are actually inspired by our movement and sees it as an opportunity to find peace themselves and progress.

So it aligns with the needs and motivations of our neighbors.

So, by Hashem this is within reach.
